My opinion is that we need to get Government Bureaucrats out of our face. We need to stop trying to find out if someone is a lazy, teat sucking deadbeat and just assume they are a human being who have a right to live with out the Government acting as his moral judge.
We accomplish that by just making the benefit provide by Government available to all. It should not matter if you are a rich man, poor man, beggar man , thief. It should be as simple as applying for Social Security. The tax to pay for it would come from a portion of the income of Americas richest people and from the system of producing goods and Service.
If you don't use the benefit, you just subtract it from your income tax. The Government sends you a 1099 form at years end showing how much to deduct directly from the taxes you owe. If Mr Rich is getting the same benefit as Homeless Joe, he has nothing he can complain about. If benefits are paid out of tax resources that do not negatively impact income tax of 90% of all citizens it become a plus in income for all of middle income Americans
Within the next 50 years we will be entering into an economy where almost all routine work that produces standardize consumable goods & service and infrastructure will be done with a small portion of the labor pool. . The rest of labor will have to find things we want(not need) in order to have something to do with their labor that will give them food and shelter and not much else. The results will be that the population will double and the ecology of the earth will be stress to the breaking point. We will be hard pressed to produce enough food and shelter to meed basic needs of human beings.
It is time now to create a system where people will not be forced to be wage-slaves just to eat. If they know that their family have food, shelter and healthcare every day, they will have the freedom to use their lives in service rather than consumption. It is time that we worked less, consumed less and lived with more freedom to choose passion and not compulsion for living.

Today Wall Street is drooling at the prospect of billions of workers with no careers who will be forced to compete with prison labor for their work. Your idea is our moral alternative to Wall Street's wish to corner the population of the planet into their slave camps. I'll spread your ideas with the goal of universal income to create decency.
